Quartet (Quintet, Sextet...)
A Jazz Quartet is the original trio (piano, bass and drums) now converted into a rhythmic support to a melodic soloist that can be a trumpet, sax, clarinet, trombone, etc...
In this musical combination the melodic aspect is enforced which makes it more attractive to all audiences.
In a Quintet two soloists join in always in contrast (the best combination is trumpet-saxo). And so on up to a Big Band!
